The Baby’s Room…Details

There are so many little details that I love about Sam’s Room.  I just wanted to go over a few of them and let me know if you have questions about something in the room!  Let me know in the comments if you have a question about that I don’t answer!

I love a good gallery wall, but geez-Louise they are so much work!! Figuring out all the frames, the way they will be situated on the wall, finding artwork for each frame and then hanging all of them level! Such a long process…and I’m still not totally done. I have some more tweaking to do here too. DSC_8679-2b
The little sun that holds back the curtains was one of the first things I did in this room to kick off the makeover.  If I don’t have something keeping the curtains back, the air blows under the curtains into the window instead of into the room…so I need something to hold them back.  I used to use books or a picture frame I hadn’t hung yet to hold them back.  In Luke’s room I made a snake filled with rice to hold back the curtains from the vent. Sam’s room needed something too, so I made a half stuffed-half rice filled Mr. Sunshine.  This is much better, don’t you think?DSC_8650-2
I made the curtains and the valance box. Normally a box like this is made of wood and pretty complicated, but I made mine out of foam insulation board and it only took an hour and a half and was under $20 to make! Let me know in the comments if you would be interested in me doing a tutorial on how I did this!

The Artwork to the right of the curtains was a gift from a friend {she made them}.  Vintage alphabet flashcards tacked onto painted and distressed pieces of wood

The fabric for the curtains is called Premier Prints Aruba Dossett Mandarin and I found it at Fabric.com. I need room-darkening curtains in Sam’s room so he will sleep better, so I sewed his old navy blue black-out curtains {you can see them in the before picture on the previous post} on the back of the orange fabric as a lining. The valance box on the top keeps light from shining through the top of the curtains and the result is a room that is nice and dark! Just the way we like it!!DSC_8676-2
I really love these rain clouds! I am working on a tutorial for these rainbow rain clouds…they are so cute and fairly simple to put together! The hardest part was figuring out how to hang them just right from the ceiling!Rainbow Rain Cloud Mobile
Tomorrow I will post about my “confetti” wall…I’ll let you in on a little secret…I didn’t paint all those dots!!DSC_8658-2
This side of the room still needs a bit of work and tweaking which I will do over the next couple weeks.  DSC_8646-2

And lastly, Something fun to look at as you walk into the room…DSC_8666-2
I love having a place to hang Sam’s towel after a bath!  I was tired of trying to hang towels on the closet’s doorknobs!  I tried to add some gold accents to the hooks, but I think I will go back and spray paint it just yellow again.  The gold is kind of making it look greenish and dirty.
Like I said before, if you have a question about something I didn’t mention let me know!  I’ve loved working on Sam’s room!

  8. I really like the colours you used here. What are the three green "pictures" on the wall between the curtains and the closet? I also really like the white shelves above the change table...

    1. The green pictures were a gift from my friend. She made them! They are thin pieces of painted & distressed wood. She used little tacks/nails to pin on vintage alphabet flashcards! You can sometimes find printable vintage-like flashcards online. I'm not sure where she found hers. I've updated the post with a picture of them so you can get a better look!

The floating shelves are from IKEA! They come in tons of colors and a few different lengths. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10159099/#/20159107
