Mailbox

Luke loves getting the real mail so much, that I thought I would make him his own mailbox!DSC_5713-2 little mailbox for kids

I found this paper-mache mailbox at Hobby Lobby (50%off) and covered it with cute papers.  If you make your own, you probably should modpodge the paper…but me and modpodge do not get along so I didn’t do it.

I alternated using two of my decorative stitches on my sewing machine for the “address” and then I went over it with a marker to make it a little darker. (don’t look too closely—I think my tension is off!!)DSC_5717-2

The back of the envelope closes with Velcro, tooDSC_5718-2DSC_5719-2

I have been writing little notes and putting them in the envelopes and then into the mailbox for Luke to find.  He will bring them to me and I will read them to him!  I might start putting little treats and toys in there too for holidays and birthdays.  I can see this being a really fun daily activity—Luke excitedly looking in the mailbox to see if he has any fun mail!

So there you go! A cute little project to inspire some creative play!

I Spy…

An I Spy bag is something I’ve been wanting to make Luke for a long time. I finally did it!

Some of the little objects I had in my beads, some I got at Hobby Lobby (they have a brand called “Dress It Up” and it’s a bunch of cute buttons and little objects perfect for this project) and the rest of the little objects I got from an Etsy shop called High Pie SupplyDSC_5581-2.

I also got the plastic pellets at Hobby Lobby (in the doll making section)

I got this cute little dino fabric in the remnant bin a while back and finally decided this would be the perfect project to use it for! {In case you didn’t know, Luke LOVES dinosaurs!} DSC_5583

One of the harder parts was taking a photo and making a card of all the little objects for him to find. I printed it out on cardstock and layered two more pieces behind it to make it thick and then I laminated the whole thing with clear contact paper. It’s pretty sturdy.

A funny little note about this bag—If you know Luke well, you know that he LOVES tiny little toys like this…hence the 50+ squinkies we have floating around our house! He really really really wants me to take the toys out of this bag so he can play with them! He kept snatching them off the table when I was trying to get the picture of all the objects! And he was a little sad that I included his little blue dinosaur and sewed him up so he can’t get him out! Sorry, kid, but at least you have a new fun thing to play with!

Baby Announcement

Samuel David Brown Birth Announcement CMYK

This is the baby announcement I sent out to grandparents, and people who live far away from us, or don’t read the blog ;) What do you think?  I never sent out announcements for Luke.  But then, I didn’t do a lot of things for him—such is the story of a firstborn.
